That post refers to the Beta 2 Technical Refresh that was out late last year. I am not sure, but I think they have resolved most of those cons they guy listed before release. Even after release of Office 2007, there were some reports of slow downs. I think they patched those up as well:

Thanks for the shout-out. I hadn’t read the post in awhile but Brian’s comment above mine made me do so and a quick synopsis says:
1) it’s still slow with large OSTs
2) spell check is much better about checking quoted parts of replies but it still happens every so often
3) it still handles URLs but error-checks better than B2TR did
The rest, I think, are all fixed.
